Puppy Care
6-8 weeks
Maternal antibodies are wearing off and your puppy needs to begin vaccinations
Distemper/Parvovirus combination vaccine (includes parainfluenza, hepatitis and coronavirus)
Strongid-T dewormer (recommended for all puppies at each booster vaccine)
First dose of heartworm prevention (several different products are available, please ask if you are unfamiliar with the different options)
Fecal examination (please bring a small stool sample to each puppy visit)
9-12 weeks
Initial vaccines are wearing off and need to be boostered
Distemper/Parvovirus combination vaccine (includes parainfluenza, hepatitis and coronavirus)
Strongid-T dewormer
Heartworm prevention (repeat monthly for life according to the American Heartworm Association)
Fecal examination (please bring a small stool sample to each puppy visit)
After 12 weeks
The puppy’s immune system is maturing to a point where it can respond to vaccines longer than one month
Distemper/Parvovirus combination vaccine (includes parainfluenza, hepatitis and leptospirosis)
Lyme vaccine for those at risk of exposure to ticks
Bordetella (kennel cough) oral vaccine (lasts 6 months)
Strongid-T dewormer
Heartworm prevention (repeat monthly for life according to the American Heartworm Association)
Fecal examination (please bring a small stool sample to each puppy visit)
15-20 weeks
This will be the final vaccination visit for the puppy series, provided that this is the 2nd vaccination that includes leptospirosis
Distemper/Parvovirus combination vaccine (includes parainfluenza, hepatitis and leptospirosis)
Lyme vaccine booster for those at risk of exposure to ticks
Bordetella (kennel cough) oral vaccine (if not done previously)
Rabies 1 year vaccine
Strongid-T dewormer
Heartworm prevention (repeat monthly for life according to the American Heartworm Association)
Fecal examination (please bring a small stool sample to each puppy visit)
